What has a stag to do with brass instruments?

A stag is to be found as the firm’s logo on old woodwind instruments from the early years of the Hirsbrunner musical instrument makers.

The family coat of arms of the Hirsbrunner Family also shows a stag. All the illustrations depict the stag standing by a well or a spring.

The family name of Hirsbrunner can be seen to correspond with the pictorial illustration. Hirsch (stag) plus Brunnen (well) makes Hirschbrunner, or as the name is today written «Hirsbrunner».

When Peter A. Hirsbrunner obtained worldwide recognition with his instruments, the question was raised for the creation of a company logo.
He remembered the old logo on the woodwind instruments. This is now being used on the instruments of the present Hirsbrunner Company.
